Janie Owens

Janie Owens is an American writer best known for her cozy mysteries, including the Daytona Beach Mysteries series. She has published both nonfiction and fiction, with her work appearing under her own name and the name Elizabeth. In addition to her mystery novels, she has written newspaper columns and instructional nonfiction, including five books published with Llewellyn Worldwide.

Her first book, How to Communicate With Spirits (2000), won the Coalition of Visionary Resources Visionary Award in 2002.

Janie Owens was born with a strong creative drive and has worked as both a writer and an artist. She specialises in oil painting and is active in the National League of American Pen Women, where she serves as First Vice President nationally and State President for Florida. Alongside her writing, she continues to promote women in the arts.

She began her career with nonfiction before turning to fiction. Her partnership with The Next Chapter Publishing has led to the release of six cosy mysteries. The Daytona Beach Mysteries follow Holly Donnelly, a character drawn into investigations set in Florida. Owens combines suspense with humour and local detail, building a series that blends crime with community.

Her most recent book, The Mansion on Beach Street (2025), is the fourth in the Daytona Beach Mysteries. It opens with Holly discovering a body at the foot of a staircase in her apartment building. Soon she is housesitting at a grand mansion filled with strange deliveries, unsettling secrets, and ghostly hints.

Detective Cooper Honeycutt believes the murder is part of a serial case, and Holly’s instincts draw her deeper into danger. With a hurricane approaching and trust in short supply, she must balance survival with a search for truth.

Janie Owens lives in Central Florida with her husband, five cats, and two Chihuahuas.
