Claudia Carroll

Claudia Carroll is an Irish author and actress, best known for contemporary fiction and romantic comedies. She is the author of He Loves Me Not...He Loves Me (2004), I Never Fancied Him Anyway (2007), and The Secrets of Primrose Square (year not specified), which was later adapted for the stage. She was a regular cast member on the long-running RTÉ soap opera Fair City, where she played Nicola Prendergast for fourteen years.

Carroll was born in Dublin and studied at University College Dublin, the College of Music in Dublin, and the Gaiety School of Acting. Her early career was in theatre and television, and she joined Fair City as a young actress. She later stated, "The insecurity of the acting profession, which I still dip in and out of occasionally, never leaves you."

While continuing her television role, Carroll began writing fiction. She wrote her first novel in her dressing room. The book, He Loves Me Not...He Loves Me, was published in 2004. In 2007, she quit the show to focus on writing full-time, but has since returned for guest appearances.

Her second novel, Remind Me Again Why I Need A Man (2005), was followed by The Last Of The Great Romantics (2005) and I Never Fancied Him Anyway (2007). Between 2008 and 2016, she published a novel nearly every year, including Do You Want to Know a Secret (2008), Personally, I Blame My Fairy Godmother (2010), A Very Accidental Love Story (2012), and Meet Me in Manhattan (2015).

She is also the author of short stories and has contributed to collections such as The Perfect Escape (2013) and Love...Maybe (2015).

Her writing focuses on flawed but resilient female characters. "I love an antihero," she stated. "Meg in my new book, The Fixer, is an antiheroine." She identifies with literary figures such as Becky Sharp and Scarlett O'Hara.

In addition to fiction, she published a guidebook, Remembrance Writing 101 (2011), which helps people share their life stories.

In interviews, she is adamant that her parents played a pivotal role in her life and writing. "My mum was here with me and safe, and that was the biggest blessing," she stated about the lockdown period. "When I pray, I pray to my late dad, Claude, and he always answers me."

Claudia Carroll lives and works in Dublin.
