Anna Premoli

Anna Premoli is an Italian writer of contemporary romance. She is best known for her debut novel Ti prego lasciati odiare (2012), published in English as Love to Hate You, which won the Bancarella Prize in 2013. Her books have sold nearly a million copies in Italy, and several have been optioned for film.

Born in Croatia in 1980, Anna Premoli relocated to Italy, where she pursued a degree in economics at Bocconi University in Milan. After graduating, she worked as a financial consultant in a private bank. It was during this time that she began writing to relieve stress.

"It was two novels, the purpose of which was not to end up in the hands of others," she later explained. Her husband, a technology enthusiast, self-published them as e-books. Newton Compton Editori took notice, and her career as a published author began.

Despite her literary success, Premoli still describes herself as "an economist by profession" and "a writer by accident". Her fiction career developed in tandem with her work in finance and family life. She says the two roles are compatible, even if they seem different: "In the end, love, in its way, could also be seen as a kind of equation".

Premoli has written more than twenty novels, including Come inciampare nel principe azzurro (2013), Un giorno perfetto per innamorarsi (2015), È solo una storia d'amore (2016) and Tutto a posto tranne l'amore (2022). Her stories are often about professionals, students or couples who rediscover love.

The novels have one thing in common: each ends with an emotional conclusion. "It doesn't necessarily have to be with a couple," she says, "because the important thing is to feel good".
Premoli's characters, she explains, often take on a life of their own.

"I like the idea that two characters, who are often different and multifaceted, have managed to find a place where they can live together". Her novels are not only love stories, but also explorations of emotional growth, communication and personal values.
