Shauna Lawless is a Northern Irish author known for her historical fantasy fiction rooted in Irish mythology. She is best known for the Gael Song series, including The Children of Gods and Fighting Men (2022), The Words of Kings and Prophets (2023), and The Land of the Living and the Dead (2024). Her work blends history with fantasy and explores themes of power, heritage, and survival.
Shauna Lawless was born and lives in County Down. She has a background in writing and a long-standing interest in Irish folklore and medieval history.
Her debut novel, The Children of Gods and Fighting Men, introduced readers to a world where mortals and immortals struggle for control in 11th-century Ireland. In this setting, historical figures such as Brian Boru coexist with beings from Irish myth, including the Fomorians and the Tuatha Dé Danann. The novel received critical praise for its blending of mythological and political conflict.
The sequel, The Words of Kings and Prophets (2023), continues the saga. Gormflaith, a Fomorian queen, seeks to destroy her magical enemies while managing her growing power. At the same time, the healer Fódla tries to protect her nephew from hidden dangers. A mysterious immortal, Tomas, enters the story with ambitions that could affect both sides.
In 2024, Lawless published two new works. The Land of the Living and the Dead concludes the main trilogy, and Dreams of Sorrow offers a novella set in the same world. In Dreams of Sorrow, a young girl named Senna learns she is descended from powerful beings and must choose between two lives.
Shauna Lawless lives with her husband, three sons, and a sproodle named Chewy.
