Abby Jimenez

Abby Jimenez is an American romance novelist and baker. She is known for The Friend Zone series (2019–2021), the Part of Your World series (2022–2024), and the Say You'll Remember Me series (2025–). She owns the bakery Nadia Cakes, with locations in California and Minnesota, and won Food Network’s Cupcake Wars in 2013.

Her 2024 novel Just for the Summer and 2025’s Say You'll Remember Me both reached number 1 on the New York Times Best Seller list. Life’s Too Short (2021) won the Minnesota Book Award for Genre Fiction.

Her novels have been translated into 28 languages and have sold over 1.5 million copies.

Born in the United States, Abby Jimenez worked as a retail manager before founding Nadia Cakes from her home kitchen in 2007. In 2009, she opened the first brick-and-mortar shop in Palmdale, California. Her victory on Cupcake Wars brought national attention.

She later expanded the business to Maple Grove and Woodbury, Minnesota. In 2018, a cake resembling a geode — and also, controversially, a body part — went viral.

Abby Jimenez began writing after a camping trip inspired her to create a young adult novel, which she later abandoned. She turned to romance fiction, seeking humour and realism. “I wanted something funny but also with depth,” she has said. Her debut, The Friend Zone (2019), became a bestseller in Poland and was nominated for an Audie Award.

The Happy Ever After Playlist (2020) and Life’s Too Short (2021) followed, with the latter winning the Minnesota Book Award. In 2022, Part of Your World became a New York Times and USA Today bestseller. Yours Truly (2023) was named Book of the Year by the Book of the Month club. Just for the Summer (2024) was a Good Morning America book club pick.

Say You'll Remember Me (2025) debuted at number 1 in multiple New York Times categories. Jimenez has announced The Night We Met (2026) as the next in the series, with a third planned.

Abby Jimenez has stated, “Romance takes place in the folds of everyday life. These are the real things that happen when people fall in love.”

you can’t spell disappointment without men

Excuse me if this isn’t the case, but you’re not a reporter trying to figure out my identity for another article about the Reddit thread, are you? You have to tell me. It’s like when you’re an undercover cop and someone asks you if you’re a cop and you can’t lie about it.

I’d realized something after being with her. A valuable lesson that I think all the best and most enduring romances have figured out.

The love stories sold us the wrong thing.

The best kind of love doesn’t happen on moonlit walks and romantic vacations. It happens in between the folds of everyday life. It’s not grand gestures that show how you feel, it’s all the little secret things you do to make her life better that you never tell her about. Taking the end piece of the bread at breakfast so she can have the last middle piece for her sandwich when you pack her lunch. Making sure her car always has gas so she never has to stop at the pump. Telling her you’re not cold and to take your jacket when you are in fact, very, very cold. It’s watching TV on a rainy Sunday while you’re doing laundry and turning her light off when she’s fallen asleep reading. Sharing pizza crusts and laughing about something the kids did and taking care of each other when you’re sick. It isn’t glamorous, it isn’t all butterflies and stars in your eyes. It’s real. This is the kind of love that forever is made of. Because if it’s this good when life is draining and mundane and hard, think of how wonderful it will be when the love songs are playing and the moon is out.
