Nitesh Gor is a British author, philosopher, and business leader. He writes on spirituality, education, and leadership. He is best known for his books, The Dharma of Capitalism (2010) and The 5-Minute Gita (2025). He was awarded an OBE in 2018 for his contribution to education.
Nitesh Gor was born in the United Kingdom. His earliest encounters with Indian mythology came through family storytelling. He later described these moments as his first introduction to “magical imagery and timeless wisdom.”
At the age of six, he travelled to India with his family. The trip exposed him to religious rituals and practices as well as corruption and inequality. He recalled that the experience “planted the seeds of a lifelong exploration.”
In 1993, while a medical student, Nitesh faced a community challenge. A local temple risked closure due to congestion during a festival. Gor organised a youth group to defend the temple’s role as a community anchor. The campaign drew tens of thousands of supporters in a protest outside Parliament.
Fatherhood led Gor to reconsider the purpose of education. He became critical of a system that valued academic attainment above character and insight. In 2005, he secured government funding for a new educational model. This project developed into the Avanti Schools Trust, a multi-academy trust that today manages schools across the United Kingdom. The trust is based on dharma principles of spiritual insight, character formation, and academic excellence.
Gor later co-founded Dharma Investments and became its chief executive. He oversaw the creation of the Dow Jones Dharma Index, a stock market index that tracks firms meeting ethical standards. He also served in consulting and executive positions in asset management, investment banking, and natural resource exploration.
His charitable activity included chairing the I-Foundation, which helped to establish the first state-funded schools in the United Kingdom based on dharma principles.
His first book, The Dharma of Capitalism: A Guide to Mindful Decision-Making in the Business of Life (2010), presented a framework for ethical and purpose-driven business practice. The work introduced Eastern ideas of responsibility into Western corporate culture. The book used case examples and practical advice for leaders and professionals seeking to link decision-making with social outcomes.
His most recent book, The 5-minute Gita (2025), condenses the 700 verses of the Bhagavad Gita into an accessible reading programme. Gor has studied the Gita for more than three decades. He presents his lessons as practical guidance for relationships, work, and inner development. Gor described the Gita not as abstract philosophy but as “a roadmap for living wisely.”
