When Faith Fails

When faith is juxtaposed against science, your view of the world, and yourself, is diminished. But when science and faith converge, your horizon dramatically expands. You pursue more, see more, anticipate more. Your love for God and this world intensifies

Religion is unpredictable. Science is methodical

Maybe we need to see the Bible less through modern eyes (How is it rational?) or postmodern eyes (How does it speak to me?). Maybe we need to accept it for what it is: an eccentric, weird, difficult, challenging, inspiring, inviting, paradigm-disrupting book that, page by page, story by story, culminates in the person of Jesus

It’s one thing to know the Bible but another thing to know the one who inspired it

You can believe without doubting, but you can’t doubt without believing.

God doesn’t give us a map, he gives us himself

factual doubt, emotional doubt, and volitional doubt

But doubt, like faith, is a journey. And a journey is so much more than just memorizing a map or discovering new information about the terrain. It’s about walking, feeling, experiencing, moving cautiously forward, and learning to trust.

doubt is the neutral space between belief and unbelief. Doubt pushes us, urges us, prompts us, pressures us; we swim in its waters. But, ultimately, we decide which way we want to go.

the opposite of love isn’t hate, it is indifference.
