8. THE DESERTERS — SAHARA DESERT SERIES

Deep in the merciless heart of the Sahara, at the remote Fort Ney and scorching heat, the sadistic Sergeant Duparne oppress the men of the French Foreign Legion. Duparne’s cruelty knows no bounds, and the men, already broken by the unforgiving desert, are further humiliated and tortured daily. When the death of a comrade and the impending, brutal punishment of another become the last straw, the smouldering embers of rebellion ignite.

The South African Joos Janse, a man of courage and insight, decides enough is enough. Together with a handful of desperate comrades, he forges a daring plan to escape Duparne’s tyranny and the hell of Fort Ney.
