T. W. Iain

T. W. Iain is a British writer of dystopian thrillers and science fiction horror. He is known for the Shadowtech and Dominions series, the Shadows trilogy, and Tales of Dominions (2025). His work spans novels, novellas, and short fiction in collections and anthologies.

He grew up with a strong interest in books and often read outdoors as a child. He has said that he remembers holidays through the books he read rather than events. Music and reading shaped his early imagination and later influenced his decision to write. Married with children, he balanced family life with work while his ideas developed. He noted that stories and thoughts “ferment” and need to be released.

T. W. Iain described this part of himself as a “release valve” for ideas that built up over the years. He began crafting tales of dystopian futures, dark themes, and science-fiction threats. His Shadows trilogy appeared in 2017 as a complete set. The trilogy consisted of Shadowfall, Shadowsiege, and Shadowstrike. It followed a crew trapped in hostile terrain and hunted by violent creatures with a hidden link to their employer.

His interest in dystopian structures continued with the Dominions world. He produced short stories and novellas set inside and outside a rigid Dome society. These works appeared across various formats and later formed Tales of Dominions (2025).

He announced that this book collected Animus, Impact and Gatekeeper, as well as the novellas Errant and Expedient. It also included Control, which had been exclusive to his mailing list. Tales of Dominions marked the first time these works appeared in paperback.

Alongside long fiction, T. W. Iain wrote shorter pieces and essays on books. He viewed writing and reading as linked acts, each producing new ideas for later work.
