Mothers are spending more time with their children than they were in the 1970s, but it’s still not enough.

It’s About Time examines motherhood’s most precious and contested resource. It draws on examples that consider the status quo’s cost to mothers and children. And it challenges us to acknowledge that there are other ways. If we’re willing to change.

Praise for It's About Time

‘Zara Rahman offers a razor sharp and beautifully written diagnosis of the structural and cultural failings towards mothers, revealing that instead of thriving, we are somehow surviving against all the odds. A must-read for everyone who cares about understanding how we have got this so wrong, and how we can imagine a better future.’

– Afua Hirsch, author of Decolonising My Body

‘A short but mighty meditation on the need to lift the weight of expectation from mothers and spread childcare and housework more evenly across society as a whole. As Zara Rahman shows so poignantly, all over the world, a woman’s scarcest resource is often her time. The tragedy is that we only notice when her clock runs out.’

– Angela Saini, author of The Patriarchs
