George K. Mehok is an American author, technologist, and angel investor. He writes contemporary thrillers that combine cyber intrigue with historical narrative. He is best known for Going Dark (2024), a dual-timeline thriller that connects modern-day cyberterrorism with the origins of the Liberty Unit militia during the American Revolution.
Born in the United States, George K. Mehok studied computer science and built a career leading technology teams across the financial, telecommunications, and aerospace industries. His work in mobile applications, cybersecurity, and data analytics has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, CIOReview, and InformationWeek.
George received Crain’s Business Magazine’s CIO of the Year award, and under his leadership, his technology team earned a place on InformationWeek’s Annual Elite 100 list of innovative U.S. technology users.
He is an active member of the Information Systems Security Association, the Mayfield CIO Advisory Council, and North Coast Ventures’ Investment Screening Committee. He also serves on the IT Centre of Excellence Advisory Board at Cuyahoga Community College and sits on the board of Literary Cleveland, a non-profit organisation promoting creative writing.
Mehok’s interest in the impact of technology on society and the people who shaped American history informs his fiction. His short story Going Dark: Caretaker of Station #64 appeared in Revolutionary Press’s 2022 anthology.
His debut novel, Going Dark (2024), introduces Paul Knox, a former Air Force officer and NSA cyber forensics expert drawn into a terrorist conspiracy that threatens America’s security. The story interweaves a historical subplot about the Liberty Unit Guardsmen in 1781, linking past and present through themes of loyalty, legacy, and sacrifice.
George K. Mehok has cited his father’s influence, his experience in technology, and the events of 9/11 as central inspirations for his writing. He is currently working on the sequel in the Liberty Unit series, in which Knox’s daughter, Emma, takes the lead.
