Louise Finch is a British writer known for her young adult contemporary fiction with speculative twists. In 2022, she published her debut novel, The Eternal Return of Clara Hart.
Louise grew up in the Midlands. As a teenager, she was an avid reader, and "Junk" by Melvin Burgess left a lasting impression. This book, among others, has influenced her approach to writing, focusing on challenging themes that speak to young people.
Finch pursued Art History at Lancaster University. After graduating, she moved to the South East of England. With more than a decade of experience in the non-profit sector, Finch has specialized in women's health and rights.
Her first novel, The Eternal Return of Clara Hart, introduces readers to Spence, an eighteen-year-old trapped in a time-loop, reliving the day of Clara Hart's death. It explores themes of toxic masculinity, gendered violence, and grief, offering hope through learning and moving forward.
The Eternal Return of Clara Hart has been shortlisted for several awards in 2023. These include the Yoto Carnegie Awards, the Branford Boase Award, the YA Book Prize, and it was a finalist for the Kirkus Prize. In addition, it was nominated for the Great Reads Award in 2022.
Finch is currently working on a new YA novel, Iris Green, Unseen. The inspiration for her writing comes from personal experiences, a passion for addressing sexism and victim blaming, and a journey through grief.
According to Louise, she enjoys writing for the young adult market because of its dynamic nature, filled with freedom, anxiety, and important decisions. She appreciates the insightful engagement from young readers at events, highlighting their deep engagement with literature.
