As Artificial Intelligence reshapes the world, a critical question emerges: will the Global South become a creator of the future—or merely a consumer of technologies built elsewhere?

In AI and the Global South, Gathu Kamau explores how Africa, Latin America, South Asia, and other developing regions stand at the crossroads of a historic technological revolution. From Nairobi’s rising tech hubs to digital economies in India and Brazil, the book examines how AI is transforming education, healthcare, security, agriculture, governance, business, and employment across emerging nations.

Blending real-world case studies, geopolitical analysis, and visionary thinking, this book confronts difficult realities: digital colonialism, data ownership, automation-driven inequality, and the growing dominance of global tech giants. Yet it also presents a bold vision of opportunity—one where the Global South leverages AI to leapfrog traditional development barriers and create homegrown innovation ecosystems.

Written for entrepreneurs, policymakers, students, technologists, and curious readers alike, AI and the Global South is both a warning and a roadmap. It challenges nations to rethink sovereignty, education, infrastructure, and ethics in an age where algorithms may shape the destiny of billions.

The future of AI will not only be decided in Silicon Valley or Beijing. It may also be written in Nairobi, Lagos, São Paulo, Dhaka, and beyond.
