Roux launches her own investigation to clear her grandmother's name. She works alongside a telepathic Doberman and a fairy bookseller. Her search uncovers secrets hidden throughout the village. She learns that Brennan's murder is only the beginning.
The novel blends cosy mystery with fairy-tale fantasy elements. Publishers compared it to The Brothers Grimm and Only Murders in the Building. It is set within the fictional world of Cheshire Hollow.
