Brian A. Mendonça

Brian Mendonça is an American fantasy writer whose work explores magic, duty and political conflict. His novels include Wedding of the Torn Rose (2023), Gravity of Obedience (2023) and Prophecy of Tears and Sacrifice (2025). Mendonça grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and later studied biotechnology at the University of California, Davis.

Born in California, Mendonça developed early interests in storytelling, technology and gaming. He described himself as “a writer, reader, and tech geek at heart”, a view that shaped both his creative work and his wider interests.

After finishing a degree in biotechnology with a focus on bioinformatics, he continued to build skills in writing and programming. Travel also played a part in his life, giving him a sense of the “melting pot of stories and cultures” that later influenced his fiction. Much of his writing time was spent at home in front of a computer, often with coffee at hand.

Wedding of the Torn Rose (2023), his debut novel, introduced the Symphony of Crowns and Gods series. The book followed Kaine, a merchant drawn into a plot involving a runaway princess, court intrigue and rising magic in the Darian Kingdom. Princess Lydia fled an arranged marriage linked to political survival, carrying secrets that threatened several realms. As the wedding date approached, Kaine confronted his own past while uncovering a conspiracy that could trigger war.

Gravity of Obedience (2023) continued the sequence with a shift in focus to Prince Thane. Raised in service to a god demanding blood, Thane learned of a troubling revelation during a mountain ritual. Sent to form an alliance through marriage, he faced mounting doubts about the divine force guiding his people. The story examined faith, obedience and the limits of tradition as Thane uncovered buried dangers that threatened several kingdoms. The book expanded the series's political scope and deepened its concern with belief and moral conflict.

Prophecy of Tears and Sacrifice (2025) extended the narrative after the events of the first two volumes. New alliances formed across Yaenia as old wounds remained open. The exiled Thane sought the Whisperers, while Kaine struggled with new responsibilities and the hidden power of the God Stones.

The Lucidians revealed their history, serving as a warning of future turmoil. Multiple factions prepared for conflict with Zann-Xia-Czul, whose new alliance forced every character toward a broader struggle. The book explored sacrifice, prophecy and the high cost of survival.

Mendonça continues to write within the fantasy genre while balancing work, gaming and family life in the Bay Area.
