Carolinda Goodman

Carolinda Goodman is the pen name of Carol Goodman Kaufman, an American author who writes for both children and adults. Under the name Carolinda Goodman, she produces picture books and stories for early readers. Her work for children combines rhyme, nature and imagination. Her most recent title for young audiences is Tuck and Friends (2025), a collection of stories about animal characters in a Florida lakeside park.

Carol began writing for children when her grandchildren were born. She has said that she wanted young readers to “experience the same wonder of nature that I have.” Once in a Full Moon (2020) was her first picture book. It explains in rhyme the names given to each full moon of the year, drawing on her interest in the night sky. Illustrated in colour, it introduces lunar cycles to young listeners and readers.

Pirate Ships and Shooting Stars (2022) followed the same format. Inspired again by looking upwards, it encourages children to use their imagination when observing the sky. It ranges from constellations and clouds to rainbows and stars. She describes the two books as a way to help both children and adults look up from screens and engage with the outdoors.

Detective Bears and Friends introduced animal group names in rhyme, such as “a lounge of lizards” and “a sleuth of bears,” using illustrations and wordplay to teach vocabulary.

Her most recent book, Tuck and Friends (2025), moves into early chapter fiction. It features seven stories about animals who live in a Florida park and face events such as storms and celebrations. The tales focus on cooperation and friendship through the character of Tuck the tortoise and his companions.

Alongside the books, she hosts a podcast, “Skygazing with Carolinda,” to discuss celestial events with families. She also maintains a Facebook page to update readers on astronomical phenomena.

Under her full name, she writes non-fiction on food history and mystery fiction for adults. She has worked as a psychologist and criminologist, but now describes herself as writing about “subjects happier than violence.” Her first mystery novel, The First Murder, received a Readers’ Favourite five-star rating.
