Shania Elliott

Shania Elliott is an American author of romance fiction and cookbooks. She is best known for her acclaimed anthologies, culinary works, and her recent romance novel, What Love Leaves Behind (2025). She is also recognised as a best-selling cookbook author and the owner of Decadent Chefs.

Shania Elliott-McDowell was born in Brooklyn, New York, and grew up as the youngest of three children. In 2001, she joined the United States Army, where she served for two years. She later completed eight years in the National Guard. In 2007, she moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, with her children. She studied at Johnson & Wales University, where she received her associate degree in Culinary Arts. In 2013, she also qualified as an LPN.

Her military service coincided with her growing interest in nutrition. Shania said, “When I was 14 years of age, they diagnosed my parents with HIV. Growing up, I would watch my parents go through their bouts of getting sick because of their diet. I joined the military and cross-trained in the culinary field. Then I obtained my culinary degree in 2007. The plan was to learn how to adjust the process of how my parents were making meals to make the meals healthier.”

In 2013, Elliott founded her business Decadent Chefs. The company focuses on developing natural seasonings, sauces, and marinades for health-conscious families, especially those living with autoimmune conditions. She stated, “I believe that the palette is the key to your soul and God has gifted me with the talents to be one who feeds you.”

Alongside her culinary work, Elliott also played football with the Carolina Queens women’s football team.

Her writing career began in 2020. She contributed to four anthologies and published two cookbooks, including Sava Jewels and Breaking Bread (2023), both of which achieved best-seller status. She has since become a five-time best-selling author and a two-time international best-seller.

Her first romance novel, What Love Leaves Behind (2025), explores themes of divorce, healing, and the persistence of past love. The story follows Brielle Johnson, an Atlanta boutique owner navigating motherhood and the complexities of former relationships.

Outside of writing and cooking, she enjoys reading, poetry, and creating music playlists. She founded the nonprofit organisation Happiness Is Vibrant, which aims to support families through community initiatives.

Elliott’s personal motto is “Make Every Moment Matter.” She also cites Maya Angelou: “If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be.”

Shania Elliott lives in Charlotte with her husband and four children.
