Mac Flynn is an American paranormal romance and urban fantasy author. She is best known for her werewolf novel Alpha Initiation (2014) and her ongoing series of supernatural-themed serials. Her work is recognised in self-published fiction, where she has maintained a steady readership since 2012.
Mac Flynn was born in the northern region of Washington State in February 1984. She loved reading as a child and began writing short stories in elementary school. An early work featured a group of friendly spiders. This interest in storytelling continued throughout her education.
In college, she became involved in writing fan fiction. She described the online space as "a boundless well of literary filth with a few gems hidden in the muck". As well as writing, she dabbled in website and graphic design. She experimented with GeoCities to create personal websites and develop her technical skills.
Flynn graduated with a degree in history in 2007. She graduated without a clear career path, and later reflected with humour that her CV was "as thin as a wire-haired dachshund". After leaving university, she worked a variety of jobs, including as a gardener and an assistant in a law firm. During this time she took a break from writing.
In late 2012, after a period of unemployment, she discovered the emerging field of self-publishing. She returned to her university interests and began work on her first writing project. In December 2012, she published the first instalment of her debut series. Although modest in scope, the project began a productive writing career.
Her first full-length novel, Alpha Initiation, was published in 2014. The story features werewolves and formed the basis of a longer series. The publication of the book motivated her to write more novels. Since then, she has published numerous series featuring dragons, vampires and other supernatural creatures.
Flynn makes the first books in each of her series freely available on her website.
