The Evernight Watch

Enter the Evernight, a realm of perpetual twilight where obsidian trees claw at a bruised sky and bioluminescent flora pulses with an eerie glow.  Here, sixteen-year-old Maelis trains to be a Warden, a protector against the encroaching oblivion. But Maelis harbors a forbidden hope for a light she's never known, a yearning that intensifies when an ancient bell shatters the twilight silence.  The bell’s toll heralds the awakening of whispers surrounding the Twilight Citadel — a prison holding a power older than the Evernight itself.  Maelis, unknowingly holding the key, must find the Citadel before the imprisoned darkness claims her as its vessel.
Joined by Corwin, a scholar haunted by his ancestors' failures, and Darin, a nightforged warrior battling the shadows within himself, Maelis embarks on a perilous journey. Their path winds through the Whispering Forests, where the trees whisper warnings and ethereal beings reveal fragmented truths about a betrayed god of light. In the treacherous Blacklight Peaks, shards of a forgotten sun ignite Maelis's untamed power, attracting the very darkness they fight. And within the Obsidian Mire, illusions and whispers test their resolve, forcing Darin to reveal a devastating secret pact that threatens to shatter their fragile alliance.
The Twilight Citadel awaits, not a sanctuary, but a monolith of obsidian and shadow. Inside, they discover the truth: the imprisoned god, Aethelred, is not a monster but a being of immense sorrow, his light twisted into shadow by jealous siblings. Maelis’s connection to the fading light is a remnant of his power, a beacon of hope — and a dangerous weapon.  She must choose: embrace the light and risk becoming a vessel for corrupted power, or condemn the Evernight to eternal night.  As a shadowy entity, bound to Darin by a desperate bargain, moves to unleash Aethelred’s twisted power upon the world, Maelis, Corwin, and Darin must fight for a dawn they may never see, a future balanced on the edge of a knife.  Their courage, their loyalty, and their sacrifices will determine not only their own fate, but the fate of all realms.
