Evidence of the Affair

I’ve always been struck by the idea that you can’t be all that happy something has returned if it doesn’t go away in the first place.
But what if the thing goes away and never comes back? Is it corny to say my heart feels like an eternal December with no April in sight?

My world is black and white, and you are Technicolor.

I am afraid that my husband is going to leave me for your wife and that I will be left with nothing. Thirty and single and childless without even so much as a secretary position on my résumé. I’ll be a joke.
