Out On a Limb

“I said, are you ready for me? Because I don’t plan on being gentle with you.”

Bo is clearly the type of guy who takes people under his wing. A natural caretaker type. It makes me glad to know that my kid will have a dad who goes above and beyond for the people he cares about.

Yes, it’s chaos. And yes, we have our hands full. But it’s a perfect little life. A beautiful, contented life.

“Winnifred June McNulty, love of my life and mother of my child, will you please marry me?”

“Bo,” I choke out.

“You are my soul’s purpose, Win. To know you, to love you, to build a family with you, to spend every day taking care of you, to watch you shine and get all the good things you deserve out of this life.” Bo ducks his head and reveals the small leather box in his hands, opening it to show me the most stunning, simple gold band.

“Then, on one random day in December, you texted me. I felt like I’d won the lottery.”

“This is a beautiful gift, Bo,” I say, wiping my tears. I move the box to the couch beside me and wrap my arms around him. “I’m sorry,” I whisper, crying. “I only made you socks.”

“I love socks.”

“I love you,” I say.

“Who said I was done?” he asks mockingly, lifting his hips and reminding me that he’s still very much inside me and growing harder by the second. “I’ve been waiting for this… honey.”

The realisation as to why every step of this pregnancy has held such weight to Bo. My feelings, my housing, my finances, my health. All because of what happened to his mother. Because of that guilt he feels.

“Maybe you could tell Bo how you feel on his birthday? Tie a bow around your tits and let him unwrap you. You must be dying to fog up those glasses of his.” And she’s back.
