«Mary Lee '' by Geoffrey Pomeroy Dennis is an insightful look into a revolution-torn Europe. The 19th century was certainly a time for change but for the main character of this book, it certainly doesn't feel like it. Tucked away in her safe English town, the narrator lives her quiet life until she's thrust into adventure and is forced to learn about the harsh truths of living in the rest of the continent.
